Women's Tennis Snags Third Straight Win

Women's Tennis Snags Third Straight Win

The Riverside City College women's tennis team faced one of this season's biggest foes on Tuesday afternoon as they hosted the Irvine Valley College Lasers in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) competition. While being awarded two victories via forfeit, the Tigers cruised to a 7-2 win.

RCC began the day with a strong doubles showing with the top duo consisting of sophomore Torrey Mateljan and freshman Keeley Arendt taking the reigns early. They skipped to an 8-3 win. Freshman tandem Samantha Treat and Daisie Flores had a more challenging showing, but prevailed by the final score of 9-7.

The Tigers leaned on the middle portion of their singles lineup with Treat earning a win at the second position in two sets, 6-4, 6-1. Arendt followed with a three set victory at the third position. It was her first three-set match this season and she battled back after dropping the opening set.

Flores continued to impress after pocketing a two set win at 6-4, 6-4 to seal the team victory.

The Tigers (5-1) will continue action on the road Thursday, May 6 at 2 p.m. to complete the two-match series against the Lasers.
