Men’s Cross Country Finishes Third at CCCAA Southern Regionals

If you hear someone talking about California Community College Cross Country, the Riverside City College men's team is going to come up in that conversation.

This year the Tigers have been bogged down by the challenges of COVID-19, but the Tigers continue to remain resilient in their approach as seen in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Championships this morning. After missing the podium in 2019, the Tigers return with a vengeance and regain a position in the top three by placing third overall.

Riverside finished behind first-place San Diego Mesa and second-place Mt. San Antonio. The Mounties slightly edged the Tigers by a mere five points.

Sophomore Mario Tavares had a phenomenal race by placing fourth overall with a time of 19:54.84 to just miss the podium. Sophomore Abel Ramos, the newly crowned OEC Individual Men's Conference Champion, placed sixth overall with a mark reading 19:59.75.

Freshman Raen Reyes continued to remain in the team's top five with a 15th overall finish with a time of 20:22.31. Freshman Gavyn Condit had another strong showing with a time of 20:30.51 to land him in 17th place, while freshman Isaac Umana rounded out the top-20 with a 20th place finish at a time of 20:33.94.

The Tigers will look to compete at the CCCAA State Championship on Saturday, November 20 at Woodward Park in Fresno, CA. They will look to haul in the first state title since 2016.
