Jim McCarron Named 2019 OEC Coach of the Year

The Riverside City College men's track & field and cross country teams have been staples at the state level while nearly dominating the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) for the past decade. Head Coach Jim McCarron has been at the center of the success. After earning a seventh-consecutive conference title and winning the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern Regional and a CCCAA State Championship, McCarron was named the 2019 OEC Male Coach of the Year.

McCarron led the Tigers to the program's ninth state title last May by being the only team to land in triple-digit points. He coached a pair of Athletes of the Meet in Antonio Mitchell and Alec Jones. Both athletes transferred to Division I programs with Mitchell attending Arizona State and Jones inking his NLI with Long Beach State.

The Tigers did not finish lower than second place in the 2019 season highlighted by a victory over a handful of Division I competitors on March 1, 2019. Riverside defeated CSU Fullerton, UC Riverside, Cal Baptist, Azusa Pacific, SCU San Bernardino and CSU San Marcos. They went on to dominate the Southern Finals and State Championships.

During the 2018 cross country season, Riverside landed on the podium five times highlighted by a pair of top finishes. They finished top 10 in the Southern Regionals and placed fifth at the State Championships.
