Clutch Singles Play Paves Way for Tiger Victory

The Riverside City College men's tennis team found themselves in a battle against the Cerritos College Falcons in non-conference action on Friday afternoon. After losing a close one to Irvine Valley the day prior, the Tigers recovered and stayed poised to edge out the Falcons by the final score of 5-4.

The Tigers were down after doubles following a lone victory from freshman tandem Aurelien Arlot and Florian Sirven. They worked a 5-4 victory after their opponents retired.

Sophomore Gleb Mityurin acted as the top singles player and set the tone with a three set victory with scores reading 6-0, 4-6, 6-2. The bottom of the lineup got the job done as the fourth, fifth and sixth players each reeled in two-set wins.

Sirven continued his hot play with a 6-2, 7-5 win, while sophomore Ayrton Aviles backed him with a 6-4, 7-5 win. Freshman Felipe Bravo sealed the deal with a 7-5, 6-3 victory.

Riverside (8-5, 2-2 OEC) will continue conference action on Tuesday, March 10 as they face off against Fullerton at home at 2 p.m.
