Tom Yancey Steps Away as Head Coach, Receives Full Time Job at MVC

It was recently announced that Tom Yancey, the head coach of the men's tennis program, has resigned and accepted a full-time teaching position at Moreno Valley College.

Yancey led the Tigers for four seasons and earned an overall record of 50-33 encompassing a 20-18 in Orange Empire Conference play. In addition to his services as Head Coach, he acted as an adjunct faculty member in the Health and Kinesiology Department at RCC.

Yancey was a two-time OEC Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2018 and was recently recognized as the 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Region I Men's Coach of the Year. Furthermore, he was named the 2016 ITA Community College Assistant Coach of the Year.

During the 2018 season, he led three athletes to OEC All-Conference singles recognition along with a pair of OEC All-Conference doubles accolades. He coached two OEC Players of the Year in Kayne Trustfull ('18) and Gleb Mityurin ('19). Furthermore, he helped coach Miles Clark (2018-19) and Mityurin to OEC Doubles Team of the Year.

"I have really enjoyed my last four years at RCC," said Yancey. "We have had some great players, but I am more proud with how many players have transferred to complete their degree."

In total, Yancey transferred seven student-athletes to various four year universities that include San Diego State, West Coast University, CSU Fullerton, UC Riverside, George Fox University, Chestnut Hill University, St. Leo University, California Lutheran University and Ottowa University.

"As the Head Coach here, it has been very gratifying to see the growth of our program which starts with the players that come through our program. I couldn't be more proud to be associated with RCC and the student-athletes that I have had a chance to coach."
