
Riverside Looks to Make a Splash at 3C2A State Championship
Riverside City College saw several swimmers, a diver and a bunch of relay teams qualify for the 3C2A State Championship this week.
Riverside's 400-yard medley team enters the championship with the best time this year (3:20.57), looking for redemption after finishing runner-up last year. The 200-yard medley relay team is also favored to win with a seeding time of 1:30.68, while the Tigers' 200 free relay team qualified with a seeding time of 1:24.00, which currently sits third. The 800 free team sits fourth with a seeding time of 6:57.86.
Three Tigers will battle for the 50-yard free title, led by Yousef Nahali, who grabbed the second seed with a time of 20.62 seconds. Zekiah Serrano (20.92 seconds) and Lennon Franklin (21.02 seconds) also qualified.
Nahali also secured a spot in the 100-yard free with a seeding time of 45.55 seconds (fourth).
Serrano also qualified for the 100-yard individual medley, entering as the top seed (50.90 seconds), and qualified for the 100-yard fly, sitting third with a time of 48.75 seconds.
Franklin will also compete in the 100-yard back as the fifth seed (50.85 seconds) and the 100-yard individual medley, also as the fifth seed (52.60 seconds).
Two Tigers qualified for the 500-yard free: Vincent Fierro and Jared Ladinez. Fierro comes in with a time of 4:51.29, while Ladinez sits at 4:52.00.
Ladinez also qualified for the 100-yard breaststroke with the second-best time this year: 55.42 seconds. Davis DeAnda joins him in the 100 breast with a time of 58.44 seconds.
The duo will also compete in the 200-yard breast, with Ladinez picking up the fifth seed (2:06.06) and DeAnda sitting in 12th (2:09.86)
Fierro will also compete in the long, 1650-yard free after posting a season-best time of 17:04.61 to qualify.
Zachary McDonald qualified for the 3-meter diving board as the fourth seed and the 1-meter diving board as the third seed.
The 3C2A State Championship is set to begin on Thursday at Santa Rosa Junior College and conclude on Saturday. Live results can be found HERE.
