Men’s Golf Qualifies for State Championships

The Riverside City College men's golf team has turned up the heat in Late April and early May as highlighted by reaching the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regionals hosted by Bakersfield College on Monday. The Tigers continued to play strong golf by carding a team stroke count of 774 to earn fourth place and qualifying for the State Championships.

Riverside was one of three Orange Empire Conference (OEC) squads to qualify for a state berth joining Orange Coast and Cypress. This marks the fourth time in the last five years that Riverside has reached the big dance.

Sophomore Michael Herrera paced the Tigers throughout the 36-hole round by earning a lowly 151. His day was highlighted by a 74 in the afternoon round. He carded a one-under throughout the opening nine holes. He finished with a two-over despite recording a birdie on the back nine.

Freshman Jason Roberts recorded the lowest score of the day for the Tigers at an even 72 during the morning round. He rode a consistent trend throughout the day by finishing even on each end of the course. He capped the day with a 164 overall score.

Sophomore Ryan DeHart finished with the teams second-best score at 156. His day was highlighted by a 75 in the morning where he finished three-over at 75. He performed well on the back nine by recording two birdies.

The Tigers qualified to compete for a state championship on Monday, May 14th at Sandpiper Golf Course in Santa Barbara, CA. Stay tuned to www.rccathletics.com for further information.
