Orange Coast’s Men & Women Haul in OEC Championship

The Orange Coast College Pirates men and women have been crowned the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Champions after a dominant performance on both sides. The men accumulated 868 total points, while the women cruised to 823 total points.

OCC's Ethan Smith, who broke the 200 Fly (1:48.53) record, shared the OEC Male Swimmer of the Meet honors with Golden West's Srvoljub Filipovic. OCC's Caden Montini was named OEC Male Diver of the Meet.

OCC's Head Coaches Anthony Iacopetti was named the OEC Male and Female Coach of the Year at championship's end.

MEN

Smith's record-breaking championship mark in the 200 Fly (1:48.53) highlighted the Pirates' efforts backed by two other gold medal finishes. Mathew Simpson touched the wall first in the 200 Back (1:48.19), while they earned a top finish in the 400 Free Relay (3:04.56). Tatsuki Inoue placed second in the 200 Back (1:49.36) to round out the top finishes.

Golden West took home two first place medals with Filipovic touching the wall first in the 200 Breast (2:04.49). Felipe Ferreira followed with a top clip in the 100 Free (46.82). The Rustlers addes a silver medal in the 400 Free Relay (3:08.35), while Kyle Sary earned the silver in the 100 Free (47.20).

Saddleback's Chase Campbell shaved nearly two minutes off of his seed time and won the 1650 Free (16:54.61) by a landslide. Riverside's Ilias Massignan followed with a second place finish in the 1650 Free (17:15.80). The Bobcat's Jack Stevens hauled in a second place finish in the 200 Fly (1:55.14) as well.

Cypress was led by Ethan Umpornpuckdi as he finished second in the 200 Breast (2:07.28).

WOMEN

The Pirates' Quinonez set the tone early by touching the wall first in the 1650 Free (18:21.01), while Delaney Lewellyn followed two swims later with a top finish in the 200 Back (2:11.97). Journey Werner hauled in her second-consecutive title in the 100 Free (53.30) and Yuuri Yoshikawa earned a meet-best mark in the 200 Breast (2:30.75).

Sarah McNeal finished right behind in the 1650 Free (19:28.74), while Alaire Thomas (2:14.52) and Kayla Yamamoto (2:16.24) finished consecutively in the 200 Back.

Riverside's Lindsey Habegger placed second in the 100 Free (55.49), while Valerie Juarez (57.12) finished third. Anoushka Jaievsky of Fullerton placed second in the 200 Breast (2:32.16).
