Women’s Cross Country Looks to Repeat Top-Five Finish at State Championships

The Riverside City College women's cross country team had a strong season last year by placing fifth at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships. The Tigers have plenty of firepower leading into this year's state dance after winning an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championship title.

Four runners placed in the top-14 at the OEC Championships to highlight the team's efforts. Sophomore Elani Huntley paced the squad as she finished second overall to earn the silver medal. Freshman duo Dakota Zamarripa and Danielle Torres placed in the top 14 as well to earn OEC All-Conference recognition.

As for Huntley, she been the top finisher for the Tigers in all but one meet and continued to do so as seen in an 11th place finish at the CCCAA Southern Regional Championships two weeks ago. She crossed the line with a mark reading 18:49.38.

Zamarripa was the next-best finisher with a 59th place finish, while Torres came in at 67th overall.
