Women's XC Places Third at SoCal Regionals
The Riverside City College women's cross country team has improved drastically since last year. That is not to say that they have failed to compete at the highest level because they have been doing so for quite some time now. This season, the squad shaped into a true state contender due in part to strong leadership and a core group of competitors that have been working towards the ultimate goal - winning and improving day-by-day. For the seventh time this season, the Tigers landed on the podium as seen in a third-place finsih at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern Regional Championships this morning.
Riverside improved on their finish from a year ago as they bumped up three spots to land on the podium this season. They have improved the last three years since their seventh place finish in 2017.
The Tigers saw a pair of runners land in the top-20 with sophomore Emiliana Merida Cano pacing the pack once again. She completed her run at 20:13.0 to cap the top-15. Sophomore Ariel Martinez was a catalyst to their success by finishing in 17th place at a time of 20:25.5. It is the second-consecutive race where the pair has finished back-to-back for Riverside.
Freshman Aliy Camacho was solid as she placed 28th overall at a mark of 21:01.6, while freshman Briana Rodriguez and sophomore Aeriel Madrigal finished in 35th and 36th, respectively. Rodriguez earned a time of 21:18.7, while Madrigal completed her trot at 21:21.5.
Riverside has qualified for the CCCAA State Championships on Saturday, November 23 at Woodward park. The race is set to begin at 10 a.m.
