Tigers Take Third in non-Division 1 Race at CSU Fullerton-hosted Titan Invite Friday

FULLERTON -- Finishing a respectable third place out of eight teams in the "non-Division 1" race, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's cross country team posted its sixth top-five finish in as many starts at the Cal State Fullerton-hosted Titan Invitational Friday (Oct. 21).

The California Coast Track Club (CCTC) won the event with a team score of 18 as it had the top three finishers, as well as fifth, seventh and tenth places. Makenna Smith of CCTC won the 5.0-kilometer race with a time of 17:22.0.

The Master's College was second (54 points), followed by Riverside City (84), Biola University (101), Orange Coast College (116), Vanguard U. (170), Marymount College (190) and San Diego Christian (225).

For RCC, sophomore Natalie Vaughn (Corona / Santiago HS '15) was was the Tigers' top finisher at 15th overall (18:43.8), followed by frosh Robin Valencia (Ontario / Ontario Christian HS '16), who was 18th overall (18:48.7), frosh Sarah Hollis (Hemet / Hemet HS '16), who was 21st overall (18:51.9), frosh Esther Shader (San Jacinto / San Jacinto HS '16), who was 30th overall (19:35.4) and frosh Carissa Gomez (Highland / Citrus Valley HS '16), who was 33rd overall (19:39.4).

The Tigers' sixth finisher was sophomore Nicole Cordero (Bloomington / Bloomington HS '12), who was 42nd overall (20:27.2), followed by frosh Katelyn Hansen (Riverside / John W. North HS), who was 44th overall (20:39.0).

Riverside's next competition will be on Friday, Oct. 28, when it participates in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships at Central Park in Huntington Beach. Race time is 9 a.m.
