Tigers Finish Second in Co-Hosted (with Cal Baptist) Riverside City Invitational Friday

RIVERSIDE -- Posting its fifth top-five finish in as many starts, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's cross country team finished second at the Second Annual Riverside City Invitational (co-hosted with Cal Baptist) at the Riverside City Course Friday (Oct. 7).

In the team standings, Cal Poly Pomona won the race with 17 points. The victorious Broncos had the top three finishers and nine of the top ten. In second place was Riverside City with 71 points, followed by Cal Baptist (72 points), Chaffey (88) and College of the Desert (135).

Calene Morris of Cal Poly Pomona won the race with a time of 18:28.03 for the 5.0-kilometer course.

For RCC, frosh Robin Valencia (Ontario / Ontario Christian HS '16) was the Tigers' top finisher at 15th overall (19:42.21), followed by sophomore Natalie Vaughn (Corona / Santiago HS '15), who was 16th overall (19:46.53),frosh Sarah Hollis (Hemet / Hemet HS '16), who was 18th overall (20:05.21), frosh Carissa Gomez (Highland / Citrus Valley HS '16), who was 19th overall (20:08.17), and frosh Esther Shader (San Jacinto / San Jacinto HS '16), who was 21st overall (20:09.73).

The Tigers' sixth finisher was sophomore Nicole Cordero (Bloomington / Bloomington HS '12), who was 30th overall (21:27.50), followed by frosh Isabelle Brito (Santa Ana / Corona -- Corona HS '16), who finished 31st overall (21:35.49), and frosh Samantha Chapa (Riverside / M.L. King HS '16), who was 33rd overall (21:49.28).

After being idle for one week before this race, Riverside will be idle for a week after this race and will next be in competition when it participates in the Cal State Fullerton-hosted Titan Invitational on Friday, Oct. 21. Race time is 5 p.m.
