Tigers Finish Fourth at Cal Baptist-hosted Lancer Invite Friday

RIVERSIDE -- Opening its 2015 campaign as a "visiting" team on its own home course, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's cross country team finished fourth at the Lancer Invitational which was hosted by California Baptist University (CBU) on RCC's home course Friday (Sept. 4).

RCC's new home course is located at 1077 Orange Street in downtown Riverside, adjacent to the RCC campus.

CBU won the four-kilometer race with a team score of 26, followed by Azusa Pacific University (43), Concordia U., Irvine (86) and RCC (92). Chaffey College, competing with only three runners, did not place.

CBU junior Caroline Barkechir won the race with a time of 14:47.41.

RCC's top finisher was sophomore Brianna Jacklin, who was 14th overall (15:18.03), followed by sophomore Crystal Tejeda, who was 17th overall (15:47.03), sophomore Morgan Tapia, who was 22nd overall (16:30.82), Megan Reed, who was 26th overall (16:49.42), and Nicole Cordero, who was 31st overall (17:10.96).

RCC's Alexis Louis finished 32nd overall (17:15.04), followed by sophomore Liliana Vargas, who was 34th overall (17:17.76), Samatha Castillo, who was 36th overall (17:31.89), Elizabeth Unzueta, who was 39th overall (18:09.14), Bridget Helgeson, who was 44th overall (19:03.52) and Natalie Torres, who was 45th overall (20:12.32).

Riverside will next be in action on Friday, Sept. 11, when it participates in the annual UCR Invitational which is run on the UC Riverside campus.
