Tigers Women Harriers Place Fifth at Golden West Invitational last Friday (Sept. 26)

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Posting a fifth-place finish, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's cross country squad did well at the Golden West (College) Invitational at Central Park last Friday (Sept. 26).

Riverside (157 points) finished behind first-place Glendale College (49 points), second-place Mt. San Antonio College (59), third-place College of the Canyons (61) and fourth-place Cerritos College (132).

Leading the way for RCC was frosh Brianna Jacklin (Riverside / M.L. King '14), who finished 15th overall (19:15.6). Next for the Tigers were frosh Rebecca "Maria" Morales (Riverside / Poly '13), who was 25th overall (19:44.7), followed by frosh Crystal Tejeda (Riverside / Notre Vista '14), who was 27th overall (19:53.3).

Next for RCC were sophomore Isi Ibarra (Highland / San Gorgonio '13), who was 37th overall (20:22.9), frosh Liliana Vargas (Eastvale / Eleanor Roosevelt '14), who was 53rd overall (21:03.8) and sophomore Shanna Shernaman (Riverside / Ramona '12), who was 73rd overall (21:40.8) over the five-kilometer course.

"We look forward to a 'bye' week to train," said RCC head men's cross country coach Jim McCarron. "The remainder of the season should be exciting with some key matchups looming, especially our (Orange Empire) Conference championships in early November. We were pleased with the packing of both men's and women's teams.

"Brianna Jacklin continues to lead the women's squad with a top 15 finish, "concluded McCarron.

The Tigers next compete at the Brubaker Invite at Irvine Regional Park on Friday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m.
