Tigers Runners Finish 20th at 34th Annual UC Riverside Invitational

RIVERSIDE -- Posting a 20th-place finish, but third among community college outfits, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's cross country team competed at the 34th Annual UC Riverside (UCR) Invitational last Saturday morning (Sept. 13) at UCR's Agricultural Operations Course.

Riverside, which accumulated 567 points, had adjusted places of 105, 111, 116, 117, and 118. RCC also had runners gain places number 125 and 126.

Leading the way for RCC was sophomore Shanna Shernaman (Riverside / Ramona '12), who was 193rd overall (22:12.0). Not too far behind were frosh Wendy Morales (Indio / Indio '10) at 206th overall (22:50.8), frosh Diana Wauran (Riverside / Ramona '12) at 224th overall (24:33.4), frosh Candy Acosta (Jurupa Valley / Jurupa Valley '14) at 230th overall (25:05.0), and frosh Astrid Garcia (Hesperia / Oak Hills '12) at 231st overall (25:11.7).

Also for RCC, frosh Melissa Pallares (Riverside / La Sierra '14) was 244th overall (28:07.6) and sophomore Michelle Gutierrez (Riverside / La Sierra '13) was 245th overall (28:20.5).

The Tigers will return to action on Friday, September 19, at the SoCal Preview. The five-kilometer race will take place at Woodley Park in Encino at 10 a.m.
