Riverside advances to Southern California Regionals with 5th place finish in the OEC Championships

ORANGE (10-26-2012) - The Lady Tigers finished fifth at the Orange Empire Conference Championships. Riverside will advance to the Southern California Regionals on Saturday, November 3rd. Orange Coast continued their dominance as they won their 21st consecutive title. Orange Coast's runners took first through fourth and sixth on the hilly course. Fullerton was second, followed by Santiago Canyon and Santa Ana. The Lady Tigers was led by Marissa Jimenez, who finished 10th overall in the field of 68 runners in a time of 20:44. Lisbet Castaneda was 15th in a time of 21:12. Rounding out the Tigers top seven was Tara Trevino (21:53), Brenda Retano (22:41), Suzanne Holt (23:02), Jessica Peraza (23:22), and Jasmine Delaney (24:23). RCC ran well despite three girls (two of the top five girls) being sick. The OEC was unusually strong this season. Five teams from the OEC have been ranked in the top 10 in the state this year. The Lady Tigers will run at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa next Saturday to compete in the Southern California Championships. The Top 14 teams will advance to the State Championships at Woodward Park on November 17th in Fresno, CA.
