No. 6 Women’s Water Polo Pockets Three Wins in Cuesta Tournament

It was a strong weekend for the No. 6 Riverside City College women's water polo team as they traveled to San Luis Obispo, CA to compete in the Cuesta Tournament. They played two ranked teams in No. 2 Santa Barbara and No. 5 Long Beach, while also taking on a pair of northern teams in Sierra and Modesto.

The Tigers went 1-1 against the top-ranked teams as they defeated No. 5 Long Beach, 10-5, but fell to No. 2 Santa Barbara, 15-6. They cruised through the unranked northern teams with a 17-8 win over Sierra and a 20-8 win over Modesto.

Leading the way through the tournament was freshman Jessie Nelson. She has arguably been the hottest player for the Tigers after netting a tournament-high 12 goals while chipping in a pair of steals and two drawn ejections. She is currently riding a seven-game scoring streak and has scored three or more goals in eight games this season.

Sophomore Lauren Nelson had a strong, well-rounded tournament with four goals, four assists, three steals and three drawn ejections. Her versatility is unmatched as she has scored at least one goal or assisted on one goal in each game this season.

Joining her teammates at the top of the stat sheet is sophomore Lauren Loffelmacher who hummed home five goals, assisted on two and pocketed two steals. Freshman Stephenie Plumb matched her five-goal tournament while chipping in two steals and an assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Gabriella Fisher earned two wins on the tournament and compiled 22 saves in three games. Freshman goalkeeper Daniela Guzman recorded a monster 14-save game in a win over Modesto to close out the weekend.
