Women’s Water Polo Falls in CCCAA Southern Regional Quarterfinals

It was treacherous waters for the seventh-seeded Riverside City College women's water polo team on Friday afternoon as they faced off against the No. 2 seeded Fullerton College Hornets in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern Regional Championships. Riverside fell behind early and could not catch up leading to a season-ending 14-9 defeat.

It was only the second taste of regional playoffs for the Tigers and Fullerton's experienced roster got the best of them. The Tigers turned the ball over 16 times and were held to two or fewer goals in three of the four quarters.

Six Tigers scored at least one goal with freshman Amber Nelson having the biggest overall impact on the game. She fired home two goals, dished out two assists and pocketed two steals. Freshman dup Caleigh Reynoldson and Kaycie Bradshaw score two goals each.

Riverside ends their season with an overall record of 16-10, a third-place showing at the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships and a 19th-consecutive Southern Regional Championship berth.

Six players finished with 20 or more goals and assists, while four finished with 20 or more steals.
