Roldan Earns Co-MVP Honors to Highlight All-OEC Team

After being named the state runner up, the women's water polo team had a strong showing on the All-Orange Empire Conference teams with freshman attacker Maria Roldan earning the Co-Most Valuable Player award. Freshman Nicole Tormey and sophomore Hannah Peercy were named to the first team, while sophomore Madison Button and freshman Kadee Guerrero-Torres earned second team accolades.

Roldan emerged as the go-to weapon for the Tigers and one of the strongest threats in conference play. She paced the Tigers in goals with 60 and scoring in 25 games, earning her the fourth overall spot in the conference. She recorded a season-high five goals on a victory over Citrus and ended the season on a seven-game scoring spree. Not only was she a reliable source of offense, she contributed on the defensive end as seen in 55 steals by recording at least one steal in 24 games. She went on a tear in the final 10 games of the season as she recorded 26 of her steals in that span. She shined on the defensive end in a contest against Cerritos where she recorded six steals accompanied by a pair of goals and three assists.

Tormey was an early front runner and a contender for the MVP award, but landed on the first-team all-conference list. She can be considered as the fastest weapon in the pool and the quickest on the defensive end. She would rarely miss a sprint which lead to numerous advantages. She paced the OEC in steals with 117. She recorded at least one steal in all but eight games and recorded five or more steals in 13. She recorded two-consecutive seven steal games in victories over LA Valley and Santa Barbara in late September. She continued her strong defensive play highlighted by a season-high 10 steal game in a victory over Cypress in mid-October. She finished the season by pocketing 53 steals in the past 10 games. On the offensive end, she finished with 52 goals with a season-high five goals in a win over San Joaquin Delta.

Peercy earns her second-consecutive first-team all-conference honor. The sophomore leader was the most versatile player for the Tigers as she continued on both ends of the pool. He defensive prowess earned her 40 steals on the season backed by nine drawn ejections. In six games, she recorded three or more steals highlighted by a pair of four-steal games. She netted 33 goals and assisted on 36. She scored a season-high four goals in a non-conference contest against Riptide Masters and followed with a three-goal game late in the season against Fullerton.

Button earned second-team recognition in her final season with the Tigers as she held in down in the cage for all but two games this season. She finished with an overall record of 25-7 with her wins total ranking second in conference. Her 244 saves also landed her second in conference leading to a 60.4 save percentage. She earned 10 double-digit saves games highlighted by a 16-save effort in a win over Santa Barbara.

Guerrero-Torres hauled in second-team recognition after finishing the season with 45 goals, 16 drawn ejections, nine steals and four assists. Her damage was done on the offensive end as her goals total landed her third on the team.

Freshman Dori Phillips and Katelynn Bloom were named to the Honorable Mention team as well.
