Riverside Cruises past Cerritos in SoCal Regionals

A five-goal outburst by the Tigers in the first quarter against the Cerritos College Falcons in Riverside's opening contest of the CCCAA Southern Regional Tournament only solidified why the were ultimately deemed the second team in the South. The Tigers set their sights on cruise control as they coasted to a 14-4 victory over the Falcons.

The Tigers outscored the Falcons 9-1 in the first half of the game to prove their dominance. Eight different players found the back of the net highlighted by a four-girl outburst from freshman Nicole Tormey.

Tormey, who has been a consistent weapon since making her debut in mid-September, recorded her 16th double-digit scoring game as she was one goal shy of her career-high mark. It was her third time this season scoring four or more goals. Furthermore, Tormey made waves on the defensive end after recording five steals.

Freshman Kadee Torres-Guerrero followed with three scores, backed by a set of goals from freshman Maria Roldan. Roldan added three assists and a game-high six steals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Button (23-5) earned the victory between the pipes after notching 14 saves. She was two stops off her career best.

No. 2 Riverside will face off against No. 3 Santa Barbara tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. for an opportunity to play in the CCCAA Southern Regional Championship. If they reign supreme in the contest, they will earn an automatic bid to state.
