Women’s Water Polo Places Second at OEC Championships

The Riverside City College women's water program earned their 25^th win of the season last Friday with a victory over the Cypress College Chargers in the first round of the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships. The victory punched their ticket to the Tiger's seventh-consecutive Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championship game this afternoon in a contest that featured the state-pacing Fullerton College Hornets. Despite holding a two-goal lead in the first quarter, the Tigers faltered down the stretch resulting in the squad's second-straight second place finish at the conference championships.

While winning conference is one of many goals throughout the year, a second-place finish is a worthy triumph. Riverside has been a staple in the championship game for nearly the past decade and continued to prove their worth this season.

The Tigers allowed four goals in the second and third quarter to put a damper on a potential victory. Riverside defeated Fullerton in their first meeting this season, but have been snubbed by them in the following three. Nevertheless, the Tigers are ready to gear up for a potential California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern Regional Championship game against them this upcoming Saturday.

Sophomore Hannah Peercy and freshman Kadee Torres-Guerrero lead the charge with three goals each, while freshman Maria Roldan followed with two goals and three assists.

Freshman Nicole Tormey pockets five steals and dished out three assists, while freshman Jesenia Wilson drew three ejections, recorded two steals, one assist and a score.
