Tigers Earn Two Wins in Battle at the Beach Tournament

The Riverside City College women's water polo team traveled to Long Beach, CA and played four games in the Battle at the Beach tournament. Riverside went 2-2 on the weekend highlighted by a pair of victories on Friday.

The Tigers kicked off the tournament with a dominating win over San Diego Mesa by the final score of 17-8. Freshman Hannah Peercy continues to string together a solid inaugural season as seen in four goals to match her season high. Prior to the contest, she had scored in three straight games and five of the last seven games.

Freshman Maricella Alcala acted as the distributor of the offense by serving out four assists. She chipped in one score as well. Sophomore Kate Fox held down the middle as seen in three goals, while sophomore tandem Nikkol Webber and Caelan Loroff each fired home two netters.

Freshman Madison Button earned the victory in the cage after hauling in 11 saves in three quarters of action.

Riverside followed the victory over SD Mesa with a win against San Joaquin Delta. The Tigers were down by one score entering into the second half, but rallied to outscore San Joaquin Delta, 5-2, in the final two frames leading to the win.

Webber led the Tigers on offense with four scores to go along with two steals, one assist, and one drawn ejection. Freshman Amelia Bennett was electric on the defense front with four steals. She also dished out three assists.

Sophomore Hannah McCarley returned to the cage and earned an eight-save victory.

Riverside (15-6, 4-0 OEC) will round out regular season action in a conference showdown against Saddleback College on Wednesday, October 24 at 3 p.m.
