Tigers Defeat Cypress with Ease to Remain Undefeated in Conference Play

The Riverside City College women's water polo team returned to their home pond after an experiencing a four-game road trip. They played host to the Cypress College Chargers in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action on Wednesday afternoon and look to continue a haulin in their seventh win in the past eight games. In a game that was tight early as seen in a two-all score in the early stages, the Tigers strung together a 6-0 scoring run following the first quarter and never looked back en route to a 10-3 victory.

Riverside did not allow a single Charger goal in the second or third quarter while outscoring them 5-0 in that span. It was just the second contest this season where the Tigers did not allow a team to score more than three goals.

Freshman Patricija Ostarcevic scored the first goal of the game for the Tigers after Cypress grabbed a short-lived lead early on. Sophomore Nikkol Webber fired home a score to knot the contest at two-all, backed by a netter from sophomore Calean Loroff to cart a 3-2 lead after the opening eight minutes.

Riverside stayed with the hot hands of Webber and Loroff in the second half as they each fired home one goal each. The scores acted as the only two goals of the second quarter leading to a 5-2 advantage entering into halftime.

Freshman Maricella Alcala chipped in a netter in the third to compliment two more goals from Webber and Loroff. Ostarcevic and freshman Amelia Bennet fired home the 10^th and final score for Riverside leading to a 10-3 win.

Sophomore Hannah McCarley picked up her eighth win in the cage after hauling in 10 saves in three quarters of work. She added one assist and one steal in the process. Sophomore Katelin Simonson finished out the game between the pipes and reeled in one save.

Freshman Hannah Peercy was dynamic in all aspects by pocketing a game-high five steals and dishing out two assists. Bennet paced the pack with four assists.

Riverside (10-4, 3-0 OEC) will continue action on Thursday, October 11 at home against American River College at 6 p.m.
