Women’s Water Polo Earns 3-1 Record in Cuesta Invitational

The Riverside City College women's water polo team competed in the Cuesta Rabobank Invitational this past weekend and faced off against four formidable opponents consisting of Long Beach, Cuesta, San Joaquin Delta, and Santa Barbara. The Tiger continued to play at a high level by going 3-1 on the weekend.

Riverside reigned supreme in the first three contests of the tournament highlighted by a double-overtime victory against San Joaquin Delta with the final score reading 14-13. In the double-overtime thriller, the Tigers dug deep and utilized numerous weapons to earn the victory.

Freshman Hannah Peercy paced the team with four goals in the contest to mark a season-high and career-high. Furthermore, she recorded an assist and swiped a pair of steals on the defensive end.

Sophomore tandem Kate Fox and Nikkol Webber continued to be an electric presence by firing home three goals each.  For Fox, she has now recorded 40 goals on the season which paces her squad.

Freshman Patricija Ostarcevic was the main facilitator by dishing out a trio of assists. She also hummed home a pair of scores and pocketed two steals.

Freshman Madison Button patrolled the cage and hauled in a season-high 13 saves through six quarters of action. She also earned three steals in the victory.

Prior to winning the double-overtime thriller, the Tigers began the weekend with a win over Long Beach by the final score of 10-8. Peercey and Fox each fired home three goals, while Webber and sophomore Caelan Loroff combined for four goals.  Freshman Amelia Bennett was dynamic in the passing game as seen in her five assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah McCarley earned the save after reeling in nine saves.

Riverside continued on to defeat Cuesta by the final score of 12-5. Fox was once again the main offensive threat by scoring three goals, while Webber backer her with two scores. Webber also recorded four steals. McCarley traveled the distance in the cage as seen in 14 saves.

Riverside (9-4, 2-0 OEC) continue action at home on Wednesday, October 10 in a showdown against the Cypress College Chargers (7-3, 0-2 OEC) at 3 p.m.
