No. 3 Women’s Water Polo Sees Five Tigers Earn Accolades Following Regular Season Play

The No. 3 Riverside City College women's water polo team enters into the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships this Friday with a first-round showdown against Sierra College. It was a team effort to reach such a stage for the fifth-consecutive season. Following the regualr season, Riverside saw a handful of players earn recognition as All-Conference, All-Southern California, and All-American honorees.

Freshman goalkeeper Hannah McCarley (Riverside, CA), sophomore attacker Josceline Godinez (Menifee, CA), and freshman attacker Katy Peterson (Menifee, CA) earned Orange Empire Conference (OEC) First-Team All-Conference honors, while freshman center Kate Fox (Murrieta, CA) earned Second-Team All-Conference recognition.

Furthermore, Godinez, McCarley, and Peterson earned First-Team All-Southern California and All-American recognition, while Fox reeled in Second-Team All-Southern California and All-American accolades. Sophomore attacker Dafne Garcia (Mexico City, NM) earned Second-Team All-Southern California laurels as well.

McCarley, a highly touted goalkeeper in the OEC and statewide, earns recognition in her first season as a Tiger. She finished the season with 225 saves which ranks third in the OEC and seventh in the California Community College Athletics Association (CCCAA). She finished the season with 21 wins which ranks second in the OEC. She has recorded 11 double-digit save games and notched 16 saves twice on the year. Additionally, she was named the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) Female September Athlete of the Month.

Godinez, who recently signed her National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend Cal State University – Northridge, earned her accolades after finishing the season with 22 goals, 30 assists, and 34 steals in 26 games. She excelled in setting her teammates up for goals while recording at least one assist in 16 games. She held a seven-game streak where she recorded two or more assists as well. Furthermore, she dished out three assists in five separate games on the year. Her steals total was very impressive highlighted by recording a five-steal contest in two separate games.

Peterson was the main offensive weapon for the Tigers throughout the season by pacing her squad in goals with 64, landing her fifth in the OEC and top-25 in the state. She held a 16-game scoring streak early in the campaign where she notched 42 goals. Furthermore, she dished out 24 assists and pocketed 36 steals.

Fox follows with her accolades after holding down the center for Riverside throughout the entire season. She ranks second on her team in goals with 54 highlighted by a six-goal outburst early in the season. Fox was a constant on the stats sheet by scoring in all but three contests throughout the campaign. She was impressive on the defensive end as well by drawing 23 ejections which paced her squad.

Garcia caps off her Riverside career with a set of accolades highlighted by her strong defensive skills. Garcia pocketed a whopping 52 steals and at one point paced the state in that category. She also fired home 30 goals and recorded 30 assists.
