Women’s Water Polo Rides Strong Second Quarter in SoCal Regional Victory over Citrus

After placing second in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships last week, the Riverside City College women's water polo team took on the Citrus College Owls in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regionals on Friday night. The Tigers rode a five-goal second period and held on to a strong advantage en route to a 10-8 victory.

It was a well-balanced attack for the Tigers with six different players scoring a goal. Freshman center Kate Fox (Murrieta, CA) paced the offensive arsenal with three goals. She has now recorded at least one goal in five-consecutive games. She tossed in an assist as well.

Sophomore attacker Megan Upton (Corona, CA) was the main gear to run the offense by recording four assists. She included one score as well.

Sophomore tandem Dafne Garcia (Mexico City, NM) and Josceline Godinez (Menifee, CA) each fired home two scores, while sophomore attacker Anay Ramirez (Riverside, CA) and freshman attacker Nikkol Webber (Riverside, CA) each recorded one goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Hannah McCarley (Riverside, CA) earned her 23^rd win of the season after defending the cage for eight saves.

The Tigers will face off against a familiar foe in the Orange Coast College Pirates. Riverside has gone head-to-head with Orange Coast four times on the year and they have split the series, 2-2. The most recent matchup came in the OEC Championship finale where OCC edged the Tigers, 9-6.

The CCCAA SoCal Regional semifinal matchup is set to begin at 12:15 p.m.
