Early Offensive Strength Leads Riverside to Conference Win Over Fullerton

The Riverside City College women's water polo team got off to another strong start on Wednesday afternoon in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action against the Fullerton College Hornets. After Fullerton grabbed a one score lead, the Tigers took control by going on an early five goal run and never looked back en route to a 9-7 victory.

The Hornets struck first late in the first frame, but Riverside quickly responded with a score from freshman attacker Nikkol Webber (Riverside, CA) to tie up the game. Sophomore attacker Cassidy Muller (Riverside, CA) followed with a netter to give the Tigers their first lead of the contest.

The second quarter was all Riverside with freshman attacker Katy Peterson (Menifee, CA) humming home two-consecutive scores in the early stages. Sophomore driver Josceline Godinez (Menifee, CA) capped off a 5-0 run with a goal leading to a 5-2 advantage entering into halftime.

Godinez picked up right where she left off by firing home a goal in the third quarter. Webber and Peterson backed her with scores to hold a slim three score lead entering into the final frame.

Despite the late surge by Fullerton, Webber sealed the deal with a netter in the final minutes of the fourth quarter en route to a 9-7 win.

Freshman goalkeeper Hannah McCarley (Riverside, CA) was a huge factor down the stretch by recording 11 saves to haul in her 16th win of the season.

The Tigers will continue action on Friday, October 20th in the Long Beach City College Tournament.
