Second-Half Offense Leads Women’s Water Polo to Win Over American River

The Riverside City College women's water polo team hosted American River College under the lights on Thursday night at the RCC Aquatics Complex in non-conference action. The Tigers found themselves in a tight knit battle through the first half, but Riverside picked up the pace to outscore American River 7-1 in the following two quarters leading to a 9-3 victory.

Sophomore defender Anay Ramirez (Riverside, CA) got the ball rolling for the Tigers and recorded the lone score for both teams in the opening frame to provide an early advantage. Freshman center Kate Fox (Murrieta, CA) added a goal in the second quarter, but American River netted two scores in the second to bring a two-all tie into halftime.

Riverside stopped playing around on the offensive end by firing home three goals in the opening three minutes of the third quarter. Freshman attacker Nikkol Webber (Riverside, CA) fired home the first goal and freshman attacker Katy Peterson (Menifee, CA) zipped home two-consecutive goals. Webber added another score to close out the third quarter to grab a 6-3 lead.

Peterson continued to cart a hot hand in the final frame by sending two more scores to the back of the net, backed by a score from freshman attacker Ysatis Lujan (Jurupa Valley, CA) en route to a 9-3 win.

Freshman goalkeeper Hannah McCarley (Riverside, CA) earned the start in the cage and recorded five saves en route to her 15th win of the season. Freshman Katelin Simonson (Magna, UT) saw some action in the goal and recorded four goals as well.

The Tigers (15-2, 3-1 OEC) will continue action at home on Wednesday, October 18th against Fullerton College at 4 p.m.
