Women’s Water Polo Rattles Off Fifth Straight Win

After dominating in the Cuesta Tournament this past weekend, the Riverside City College women's water polo team returned to Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action on Wednesday afternoon to face off against the Cypress College Chargers on the road. The Tigers continued to roll by relying on a five-score outburst in the second quarter en route to a 12-7 win.

It was a tight contest to start as freshman center Kate Fox (Murrieta, CA) got the ball rolling with a score, backed by a netter from freshman attacker Katy Peterson (Menifee, CA) to hold a 2-1 advantage after the opening frame.

The Tigers followed by exploding for five scores in the second quarter to distance themselves from the Chargers. Peterson continued to cart a hot hand by firing off two-consecutive scores for Riverside. Sophomore defender Anay Ramirez (Riverside, CA) chipped in by uncorking a score, backed by another pair of goals from Peterson to hold a 7-4 lead.

Fox continued to remain an offensive threat throughout the remainder of the contest by recording a score in the third and the fourth quarter, while sophomore attacker Josceline Godinez (Menifee, CA) matched her two-goal outburst leading to the 12-7 victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Hannah McCarley (Riverside, CA) earned her 14th win in the cage after reeling in four saves and dishing out one assist.

Peterson led the pack with five goals, while sophomore attacker Dafne Garcia (Mexico City, NM) dished out three assists.

The Tigers (14-1, 3-0 OEC) continue action on Wednesday, October 11th and square off against the Orange Coast College Pirates at home at 4 p.m.
