Women's Water Polo Goes Undefeated in Cuesta Tournament

The Riverside City College women's water polo team hit the road this weekend and played in the Cuesta College Tournament in San Luis Obispo, CA in a pair of non-conference contests. The Tigers rattled off their 12th and 13th wins of the season against Long Beach City College and Santa Barbara City College, respectfully.

Game One vs Long Beach

The Tigers scored in each quarter to make it challenging for the Vikings to gain any traction. What made their efforts even harder was the fact that freshman goalkeeper Hannah McCarley (Riverside, CA) was a brick wall between the pipes. She finished with 13 total saves.

Sophomore attacker Dafne Garcia (Mexico City, NM) performed on both ends of the pool by pocketing a game-high four steals and netting a pair of scores. Freshman attacker Katy Peterson (Menifee, CA) followed with a set of goals en route to the victory.

Game Two vs Santa Barbara

The Tigers faced off against the Vaqueros for the second time this season. Both teams entered the game with one loss under their belt and Riverside looked to keep it that way.

Peterson provided the lone score of the first quarter to hand the Tigers a one-score advantage. However, after just one second-quarter goal from freshman center Kate Fox (Murrieta, CA) to SBCC's two goals, the contest was all tied up at two-apiece entering into halftime.

The Tigers went on to outscore Santa Barbara, 4-2, in the second half. Garcia helmed the attack with two goals, while sophomore defender Anay Ramirez (Riverside, CA) capped off the game with a netter en route to a 6-4 victory.

McCarley played out of her mind once again by recording 14 saves. She totaled 27 stops throughout the entire tournament.

The Tigers (13-1, 2-0 OEC) will return to conference play on Wednesday, October 4th by taking on the Cypress College Chargers (9-4, 1-2 OEC) at 3 p.m. on the road.
