Women’s Water Polo Cruises to 12-2 Win in Season Opener

The Riverside City College women's water polo team kicked off its 2017 campaign in the 10th Annual River Rage Tournament hosted by American River College on Friday evening. The Tigers were no match for American River as they utilized a five-goal outburst in the first quarter en route to a 12-2 victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Hannah McCarley (Riverside, CA) shined in her season debut between the pipes by hauling in 10 saves en route to her first victory. Additionally, she pocketed three steals and dished out three assists. Freshman goalkeeper Katelin Simonson (Magna, UT) entered the game and recorded three saves as well.

The offensive attack was very well-rounded with a quartet of Tigers netting a pair of goals each. Sophomore attacker Dafne Garcia (Mexico City, NM) and freshman attacker Nikkol Webber (Riverside, CA) each scored two goals, recorded two steals, and dished out one assist.

Freshman attacker Katy Peterson (Menifee, CA) scored two goals and swiped a steal, while freshman center Kate Fox (Murrieta, CA) located the back of the net twice.

The Tigers will play an exhibition matchup against California Republic Masters for an evening game. They will face off against CRM again tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. and then conclude the tournament with a showdown against San Joaquin Delta on Saturday at 12:25 p.m.
