Tigers Take Two To Open Long Beach-hosted "Battle at the Beach" Tournament Friday

CYPRESS -- Outscoring a pair of opponents, 32-3, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's water polo squad won both of its games in the first day of competition at the Long Beach City College (LBCC)-hosted Battle at the Beach Tournament Friday (Oct. 21).

In the nightcap against host Long Beach City, Riverside City (22-1 overall) opened with a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and cruised to a 14-2 victory.

Sophomore two-meter offense player Emily Martin (Yucaipa / Yucaipa HS '15) led the way with four goals, and sophomore attacker Citlali Salazar (Eastvale / Eleanor Roosevelt HS '15), sophomore attacker Jacqueline Godinez (Menifee / Vista Murrieta HS '15) and frosh attacker Dafne Garcia (Mexico City, MEXICO / Inhumic [MX] 'HS) each scored twice for RCC.

In the opener against Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC), RCC also led, 6-0, at the end of the first quarter en route to an 18-1 win over the Monarchs. Martin also had four goals. Salazar had two goals and also had three assists and seven steals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ariana Olmos (Redlands / Redlands East Valley HS '15) had four saves and allowed a second-quarter goal against LAVC. Against LBCC, Olmos had nine saves.

Riverside will continue tournament action on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 11:30 a.m. when it plays in a championship semifinal game at Cerritos College.
