SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Defeating one team, but losing to another, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's water polo squad fell from the ranks of the unbeaten to conclude its action Saturday (Oct. 1) at the Rabobank Tournament hosted at Cuesta College.

Riverside City (15-1 overall) defeated the Golden West College (GWC) Rustlers, 10-1, before losing, 14-12, to the undefeated Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) Vaqueros (14-0). The day before, SBCC knocked GWC (then 13-1, now 14-2) from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 9-4 win.

In the win against Golden West, Riverside led, 1-0, after the first quarter, 2-0 at halftime and then exploded for five goals in the third quarter for a 7-1 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Sophomore two-meter offense player Emily Martin (Yucaipa / Yucaipa HS '15) tossed in three goals to pace RCC. Sophomore attacker Mary Myers (Riverside / M.L. Sophomore goalkeeper Ariana Olmos (Redlands / Redlands East Valley HS '15) had nine saves for RCC.

In the loss to Santa Barbara, the Tigers trailed, 6-2, at the end of the first quarter and 9-4 at halftime. Each time scored four goals in the third quarter and RCC outscored SBCC, 4-1, in the fouirth quarter, but it wasn't enough.

Once again, Martin led the Tigers in scoring with four goals. Sophomore attacker Citlali Salazar (Eastvale / Eleanor Roosevelt HS '15) chipped in with one goal and five assists. Olmos went the distance in goal and logged eight saves.

Riverside will next be in action on Wednesday, Oct. 5, when it hosts the Cypress College Chargers in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game at 3 p.m.
