Tigers Win Another Pair In First Day's Action at Cuesta Tournament

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Winning a pair of games in the first day of action at the Cuesta Tournament, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's water polo squad continued its undefeated season with victories over the Orange Coast College (OCC) Pirates, 14-2, and the Long Beach City (LBCC) Vikings, 13-7, Friday (Sept. 30) at the Cuesta Tournament.

At 14-0 overall, Riverside City (2-0 in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) is one of three undefeated teams in the state with at least ten decisions. The other two are OEC-rival Golden West and Santa Barbara City each at 11-0. Push will come to shove as RCC will face both of those undefeated teams Saturday.

In RCC's first game on Friday, the Tigers jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and went on to lead, 7-1, at halftime and 9-2 after three quarters.

Sophomore attacker Jacqueline Godinez (Menifee / Vista Murrieta HS '15) led RCC with three goals and sophomore attacker Citlali Salazar (Eastvale / Eleanor Roosevelt HS '15) -- who is pictured -- chipped in with five steals. Sophomore goalkeeper Ariana Olmos (Redlands / Redlands East Valley HS '15) had 11 saves for RCC.

In RCC's 13-7 win over LBCC, the Tigers led, 3-2, after the first quarter and 5-4 at halftime before exploding to a 10-5 lead after three quarters.

Sophomore two-meter offense player Emily Martin (Yucaipa / Yucaipa HS '15) tossed in four goals and frosh attacker Josceline Godinez (Menifee / Vista Murrieta HS '16) had two goals, two assists and three steals. In goal, Olmos had 13 saves and two assists.

Riverside will continue Cuesta Tournament action on Saturday, Oct. 1, when it faces Golden West at 9:55 a.m. and Santa Barbara City at 2:15.
