Tigers Score Early, Often in 10-1 Home Win over Orange Coast Wednesday

RIVERSIDE -- Finally playing its first home game of the season, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's water polo squad posted a 10-1 win over the visiting Orange Coast College (OCC) Pirates in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 14).

Riverside (13-2 overall, 3-0 OEC) led only, 2-1, after the first quarter as the visiting Pirates had several good looks, but then RCC regrouped on defense and outscored OCC, 5-0, in the second quarter and led, 7-1, at halftime. The Tigers led, 10-1, after three quarters as both teams were scoreless in the final stanza.

Frosh attacker Mary Myers (Riverside / M.L. King HS '15) -- who is pictured -- led the Tigers with four goals. She added one assist and had six, count 'em, six steals. Frosh two-meter offensive player Emily Martin (Yucaipa / Yucaipa HS '15) had three goals and one assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Chang (Laie, HI / Kahuku (Oahu) HS '14) started and finished the first three quarters and logged nine saves and added one assist. Frosh GK Ariana Olmos (Redlands / Redlands East Valley HS '15) started and finished the fourth quarter and had five saves.

Riverside will next compete in its RCC Mini Tournament this Friday, Oct. 16.
