RCC Women Water Poloists Fall from the Ranks of the Unbeaten, Lose, 11-7, to Fullerton

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Sustaining its first loss of the season in the finale of its four-game set at the Cuesta Tournament, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's water polo squad fell from the ranks of the unbeaten Saturday (Oct. 4).

Riverside (15-1 overall), the 2013 state tournament runner-up, took on the Foothill College Owls in the morning game and prevailed by the score of 10-5. The Tigers led, 4-0, at halftime. Sisters Nikki Bell (Riverside / M.L. King '13) and Danika Bell (Riverside / M.L. King '14), who accounted for eight of the goals scored five and three, respectively.

In the second game of the day and, on only a two-game rest, the Tigers matched up with the undefeated Fullerton College Hornets (13-0). The Tigers trailed, 2-0, after the first quarter, but found their stride and led, 5-4, going into halftime. 

However, in the second half, the Tigers became exhausted and were outscored 7-2 and were handed their first loss of the season.  Nikki Bell had six goals, while Melissa Woody (Temecula / Temescal Canyon '13), who is pictured, added the other goal. 

The Tigers will be idle for 10 days and will next compete in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) competition on Wednesday, Oct. 15, when they host the Cypress College Chargers at 3 p.m.
