In the 2015-16 academic season, Monica Hayes-Trainer begins her eighth season as the head coach of the Riverside City College (RCC) women's volleyball program.

In the previous seven seasons, Hayes-Trainer has compiled an overall won-lost record of 85-89 and 35-53 in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC). In her two most successful seasons, Hayes-Trainer guided the Tigers to overall records of 17-11 (in 2009) and 18-9 (in 2010) and a pair of appearances in the Southern California Regional playoffs, earning a No. 9 seed each time.

Before arriving at RCC, she was the head assistant coach at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), coaching teams as they competed in NCAA Division II and Division I. During her tenure at UCR, she was part of the 1986 NCAA Division II National Championship Team. She was the recipient of the 1999 UCR Outstanding Coaching Performance Award and the 2003 AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year.

Coach Trainer attended San Bernardino Valley College her freshman year and was inducted into the SBVC Hall of Fame in 2010. She played three years at San Jose State University. In her junior year, the team was ranked 8^th nationally in the NCAA Division I Volleyball rankings.

After college, Coach Trainer played volleyball overseas, competing for two years in Switzerland, where her team became the Swiss Champions, and one year in Italy, where the team finished #1 in A2 and moved up to the top league of the country, A1.

Upon her return to America, she continued her education at California State University, San Bernardino, earning her teaching credential and her master of arts degree in guidance counseling. She continued to play volleyball, competing for the Professional Volleyball Team, the San Bernardino Jazz, and playing the USAV circuit. She is an 11-time All-America and a seven-time USAV Senior Volleyball Champion.

Coach Trainer’s number one fans are her husband, Joe, and her mother, Pat. They attend every home Tiger volleyball match, with Joe announcing the matches. They have a daughter, Beverly, her husband, Jorge, and 3 wonderful grandchildren, Daniel, Abigail and Elena.
