Volleyball Earns First Conference Win

A rough stretch for the Riverside City College women's volleyball team found the Tigers staring down the barrel of a potential five match losing skid entering into an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) showdown against the Santiago Canyon College Hawks.  The Tigers snapped their slide with a three-set victory over the Hawks with commanding performances on offense.

Sophomore duo Maggie Aburto and Jessica Lepe carried the offense as they combined for 35 of the team's 42 kills. Lepe had a career-night by firing home 19 kills on 31 attempts. Her .581 hitting percentage was the highest in her career. Aburto followed with 16 kills on the same number of opportunities landing her in double-digit kills in three of the last four games.

The pair played well on the back line as they teamed up for 15 total digs; eight of them going in the direction of Lepe.

Freshman Audrey Elias led the team with 11 digs and took the lead on facilitating. She recorded 34 assists, which marks the fifth time this season she has recorded 30 or more assists in a match. Additionally, it was the first time this season she recorded more than 30 assists in a three-set match.

Freshman Hoku Goday recorded quality time leading to seven digs, while sophomore Mya Castro matched her output with seven digs as well.
