Tigers Lose in Four, Drop Third-Straight Conference Match

The Riverside City College women's volleyball team was tabbed with their third-consecutive conference loss on Wednesday as they took on the Fullerton College Hornets in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action.

Scores were close in three of the four sets highlighted by an opening set triumph at 25-21. Riverside struggled in the second set by losing 14-25, but fought in the final two sets. However, they were bested by two points in each and fell 23-25. They were up in the fourth set by five points, but a mini Fullerton run was their ultimate demise.

Sophomore Maggie Aburto was the strongest offensive option with 15 kills after a team-high 41 attempts. She chipped in 11 dig and a block assist as well. She has landed in double-digit kills in three of the last four games and six overall.

Freshman setter Audry Elias recorded 30 assists to mark her ninth consecutive game with 20 or more assists and fifth match with 30 or more assists. She rose up for two block assists and notched six digs.

Sophomore libero Mya Castro paced the team with 17 digs which was the second highest mark between both teams. She recorded a nice diving dig in the fourth set to keep the Tigers within one point of the lead at the time. Sophomore Jessica Lepe followed with 16 digs, while sophomore Chloe Christelman had 10 digs.

Lepe had seven kills, while sophomore middle Esmeralda Aguilar followed with five kills. Freshman Paris Toaetolu staffed the net with authority after recording seven block assists. Aguilar had the lone solo stuff.
