Indoor Volleyball Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive

Despite a streaky conference campaign, the Riverside City College indoor volleyball team has made it known in the South that their goal for a playoff berth still remains a reality in their eyes. Despite the set scores have been tight throughout the season, the wins have not followed. It all changed on Friday night as the Tigers earned a crucial four-set victory over the Fullerton College Hornets on the road to keep their playoff hopes intact.

Riverside won in come from behind fashion after dropping the opening set. They roared back to take the final three sets highlighted by a 26-24 match-clinching spread in the final set. It is the team's second win in the last three games.

With a limited arsenal of weapons, the Tigers leaned heavily on their go-to missile - sophomore Vashti Elias-Romero. To no surprise, Elias-Romero successfully carried a heavy load by hammering home 21 kills and recording 22 digs. It is her 11th match where she has landed in double-digits in both kills and digs. Furthermore, she reached a career-high in points earned while being responsible for 25.5 points thus equating to approximately 25 percentage of Riverside's points earned.

Elias-Romero had some assistance from familiar roll players as sophomore Jasmine Urban hammered home seven kills, while freshman Keeley Hober notched six kills. Hober also added a block assist.

Play at the net deemed strong as freshman Sierra Scott lead the charge in the middle for the third-consecutive game. She earned three block assists and a solo stud while adding four kills. Freshman Amara Hill return after a short stint on the sideline due to injury and contributed a block assist and a kill.

Freshman Hailey Gray was dynamic in the offense as seen in 34 assists. It is her sixth match recording 30 or more assists and sixth time in the last eight matches.

Riverside (12-12, 6-8 OEC) will face off against Orange Coast College on the road Wednesday, November 13 at 6 p.m.
