Second Set Tenacity Earns Riverside Straight Set Victory

Two close sets for the Riverside City College women's indoor volleyball team shaped the outcome in a conference showdown against the Saddleback College Gauchos. In two sets that went over the 25-point mark and one including an 11-2 run set the tone leading to a straight sweep victory.

Riverside was sparked by an opening set victory and looked to carry their momentum into the second. Saddleback gave them a run for their money in the second, but an 11-2 run late in the match sealed a second-set triumph. They cruised through the third set leading to the win.

It was none other than sophomore Vashti Elias-Romero who led the team on offense with 13 kills and a service ace. She recorded 12 digs in the process. Sophomore Jasmine Urban returned to her forceful ways with seven kills and a match-high three services aces.

Freshman Amara Hill recorded a season-high 20 attempts which led to six kills. She recorded a block assist as well joining freshman tandem Keeley Hober and Haley Gray. Elias-Romero rounded out the block assists.

Sophomore Sadie Arganda manned the backline for a match-high 18 digs, marking the seventh time in eight matches she has landed in double-digit digs. It is her largest mark since recording a career-high 30 digs.

Gray was the main facilitator with 17 digs, while sophomore Madison Hernandez followed with 12 assists.
