Elias-Romero Sets Match Highs in Four-Set Win Over Inland Empire Rival College of the Desert

It was a battle of Inland Empire foes on Friday night as the College of the Desert Roadrunners looked to make it two wins in as many years over the Riverside City College women's volleyball team. The Tigers came to play despite a small hiccup in the second set, but nearly cruised to a 3-1 win over the Roadrunners.

The Tigers hit over .200 in three of the four sets highlighted by an efficient fourth set which clinched the victory. They hit a match-high .250 while committing only one error.

It was yet again sophomore outside hitter Vashti Elias-Romero who carried the offensive load as seen in a match-high 19 kills on 58 attempts (.224 hitting percentage). Her mark acts as a season high. Additionally, she displayed her defensive prowess by recording a match-high of 24 digs which also stands as an individual season high. She was responsible for 22 points.

Freshman setter Hailey Gray worked the operated the engine of the offense as seen in 24 assists. She recorded just one lone error. Freshman setter Molly Watson contributed as well with 14 assists and a lone kill.

Sophomore swinger Jasmine Urban did her usual damage by reaching double-digit kills for the second-consecutive match. She finished with 10 while adding four digs. Freshman Miranda Gates was impressive down the stretch, particularly in the serving game. She recorded consecutive aces in the fourth set and finished with three total aces. She chipped in four clutch kills as well.

Sophomore libero Sadie Arganda patrolled the backline with 10 digs and chipped in three aces, while freshman Keeley Hober defended at the net with four block assists.

Riverside (4-2) will host a quad tournament at home on Friday, September 13. They will face off against Mt. San Jacinto at 2 p.m. and San Diego Mesa at 4 p.m.
