Riverside Snaps Two-Game Skid in Victory over Santiago Canyon

The Riverside City College volleyball team returned home on Wednesday for the second time this month in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) battle against the Santiago Canyon College Hawks in search for their second conference victory. It took four sets, but the Tigers were able to claw their way past the Hawks with final set scores reading 21-25, 25-19, 25-17, and 25-23.

Freshman outside hitter Kiara Oregon (Riverside, CA) paced the Tigers on the offensive front by hammering home a team-high 10 kills. She returned to the double-digit kills mark after a six-match drought from the double-digit level. She also added 13 digs which was a career-high blot.

Freshman middle blocker Madison Bogh (Highland, CA) followed with seven kills. After coming off a double-digit kills total last week of 14, Bogh has recorded a kill in 10 of the Tiger's last 11 games. Freshman outside hitter Marcella Rodriguez (Belize City, Belize) matched her seven-kill outburst to go along with 12 digs.

Freshman setter Taylor Gardner (Colton, CA) was four assists shy of her season high total as she dished out 27 assists. She dropped in three kills and notched a pair of aces. The aces came in consecutive serves to kick off the third set.

The defensive line was led by freshman libero Natalie Escher (Redlands, CA) who recorded a team-high 18 digs. Freshman outside hitter Alexus Calhoun (Riverside, CA) accompanied her with 17 digs which is a career high and the first time she has landed in double-digit digs.

The Tigers look to continue the winning momentum in a conference match against the No. 2 Irvine Valley on Friday, October 20th at 6 p.m. on the road.
