RCC Volleyballers Lose, 3-0, at Irvine Valley Wednesday

IRVINE -- Trekking to face the top-ranked team in Southern California, the unranked Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's volleyball squad lost, 3-0, to the host Irvine Valley College (IVC) Lasers Wednesday evening (Oct. 8) in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) match at IVC's Hart Gymnasium.

Riverside (4-7, 1-1 OEC) lost by the set scores of 18-25, 11-25, 6-25, to Irvine Valley (9-0, 2-0 OEC), which is also the No. 2-ranked team in the state behind 2013 state champion Cabrillo College.

RCC was led by sophomore outside hitter Naomi Tilford (Vista / Vista '11 / San Diego Mesa CC) with a team-high six kills. Sophomore setter Sarah Kelly (Riverside / John W. North '13) had seven assists and frosh setter Melissa Moe (Riverside / Poly '14) had six assists to aid the Tigers' cause. Kelly and sophomore defensive specialist/libero Hannah Lockhart (Moreno Valley / Calvary Chapel '13) each had a team-high six digs.

For Irvine Valley, outside hitter Kobi Pekich led the Lasers with a match-high ten kills and seven digs and setter Hailey Jones had a match-high 36 assists.

With the loss, the Tigers will host the Saddleback College Gauchos on Friday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m.
