Riverside (8-14, 4-10 / sixth place in OEC) had a pair of sophomore outside hitters combine for 39 kills as Cherylain Dizon (Redlands / Redlands East Valley HS) registered a match-high 20 kills and Deborah Catanese (Corona / Christian Heritage HS) logged 19 kills. Dizon added ten digs. Catanese also added a co-match-high four service aces.
 
Sophomore setter Jennifer Norton (Highland / Redlands East Valley HS) had a match-high 36 assists and a co-team-high 12 digs. Sophomore setter/defensive specialist Josette Calhoun (Riverside / John W. North HS) also had a co-team-high 12 digs.
 
Saddleback (6-15, 2-12 / seventh place in OEC) was led by freshman outside hitter Allie Rowe (Mission Viejo / Santa Margarita HS) with 11 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore setter Hannah Hildebrand (Irvine / Irvine HS) dished out a team-high 29 assists. Freshman libero Paulina Persson (Miami, FL / Coral Reef HS) had 13 digs and a co-match-high four service aces.
 
In the all-time series, RCC leads Saddleback, 37-26, all in OEC play since the conference was rebirthed in the 1986-87 academic year.
 
In the first set, RCC trailed, 4-1, and then managed to tie the set at 4-4. Trailing, 5-6, the Tigers strung together nine straight points (Catanese two kills) for a 14-6 lead and win, 25-14.
 
The second set saw the Tigers lead, 18-17, before Saddleback managed to tie the set at 20-20 before a RCC attack error, a kill by Rowe and a block assists by Hildebrand, et al, gave the Gauchos a 24-21 lead en route to the 25-21 set win.
 
In the third set, Riverside reasserted itself after trailing, 0-1. The Tigers roared to leads of 6-1, 10-4, and 15-5 before cruising to a 25-6 set win.
 
The fourth set was much the same as the third as RCC led, 3-2, 6-4, and 14-8 before keeping the Gauchos at bay with a 25-20 set win.
 
For the match, Riverside hit a healthy .331 (on 54 kills and only 11 attack errors on 130 attempts). Conversely, Saddleback hit only .080 (on 37 kills, 26 attack errors and 138 attack attempts).
 
The annual post-conference coaches meeting will be held tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 21, at Orange Coast College.
