Fullerton College Hornets 3, at Riverside City Tigers 1

In the all-time series, Fullerton leads RCC, 26-24, all in OEC play since the Hornets joined the conference for the 1988-89 academic year.

In the first set, Fullerton never trailed as RCC could manage only a 7-7 tie en route to the 25-14 win.

The second set was clearly the most entertaining, if not the most competitive. Riverside caught fire after trailing, 6-2, and tied the set at 12-12 before forging a 20-15 lead which became a 23-20 lead, thanks to four kills and a block solo by Dizon. But the Hornets refused to cave in and managed a 24-24 tie before pulling out a 26-24 win.

With that, Riverside could have given up right then and there in the third set, but the best of human psychology was with the Tigers as it rallied to take an 11-10 lead, posted a 20-15 advantage and held off the pesky Hornets to win, 25-18.

The fourth set saw the Hornets trail only at 1-0, before posting leads of 8-2, and 19-14, before sealing the match with a 25-19 win.

Neither team hit well throughout the match. Riverside hit .167 (on 46 kills and 21 attack errors on 150 attempts. The Hornets hit only .149 on 47 kills, 23 errors and 161 attack attempts.

Both teams continue to OEC action on Friday, Nov. 15, when Fullerton hosts the Irvine Valley College Lasers and Riverside visits the Golden West College Rustlers at 6 p.m.
