Irvine Valley gives Riverside their third straight loss

RIVERSIDE (10-19-2012) – Riverside (7-7, 2-5 OEC) fought back and forth with visiting Irvine Valley (10-3, 4-3 OEC), only to lose in five competitive sets. Riverside jumped out on the Lasers with 12 kills and won the first set 25-20. In the second set, Irvine Valley stormed back with an impressive 17 kills for a 25-16 win to even the game 1-1. The Tigers won the third set 25-22, and on the game winning point, middle hitter Samantha Straley killed Irvine Valley's Alexis Radecki's attack to seal the set. The Lasers showed poised and duplicated a 25-16 win in the fourth set. In the final set Irvine Valley jumped out to a 4-0 lead, and the Lasers clinched the victory by racking up nine kills to win 15-8.

Cherylain Dizon had 15 points, 14 kills, 12 digs, and nine errors. Kayla Johns tallied 11 kills and 13.5 points, and freshman Dorethea Williams registered 18 digs. Overall, the Tigers were outscored 85-61.

Santa Ana will host Riverside on Wednesday. Game time is at 7 p.m.
