Riverside’s come back falls short as Cypress wins 3-2

RIVERSIDE (10-26-2012) – The Tigers (8-8, 3-6 OEC) lost the first two sets against Cypress on Friday night with a total score of 50-35. In the second set, Cypress jumped out to a 15-4 lead that the Tigers could not recover from. Riverside found themselves down 2-0, but in the third and fourth sets the Tigers dug deep and evened the sets 2-2. Trish Gauthier and Kayla Johns led the charge in the third set with four and three kills respectively as the Tigers won 25-19. After winning the fourth set 25-21, Riverside opened the deciding set with a 5-1 lead. The Chargers quickly called a timeout. The timeout was utilized well because Cypress (10-10, 6-3 OEC) recaptured their scoring and defensive touch to knot the score 8-8. With the game tied, the Chargers closed out the Tigers with six kills in a 7-2 spurt.

Jennifer Norton had 25 assists and 6 digs, and Taylor Whiteside had 11 kills and a game-high seven errors. Riverside will battle Orange Coast (15-0, 9-0 OEC), ranked number two in the state, on Wednesday, Halloween, at 6 p.m. In their first conference match, Orange Coast swept Riverside 3-0.
