Women's Track & Field Hosts RCC Invitational

The Riverside City College women's track and field team played host to multiple Division I, II and two-year schools at the Riverside City College Invitational on Friday. In the final home meet of the season, the Tigers placed fourth overall by amassing 48 points.

It was the final track and field meet on the current track and turf. The turf  and track is set to be renovated starting on Monday, March 6 as the field was deemed unsafe to participate late last Fall. The RCC District allocated $7.7 million to redo the turf and track shortly after it was shut down.

UC Riverside placed first overall with a point total of 158.50, while Mt. San Antonio placed second overall with 153.50 points. CSU San Bernardino rounded out the top three with 106.50 points.

Sophomore Alejandra Rosales placed first in the Shot Put (40' 4"), second in the Discus (135' 1") and third in the Hammer (142' 8").

"I think I did pretty good," said Rosales. "It was my first meet of the season after injury so coming back this year I am feeling good, healthy and working hard. I am going up from here."

Rosales is the most consistent thrower for the Tigers and brings what she learns in practice into competition.

"Whatever I do at practice, the time I put in is the result I get. The extra time that I am putting in is really showing."

Freshman Dakota Zamarripa placed first overall in the 3000 M Steeplechase (12:44.77).

"I wanted to have fun during my first collegiate 3k. I just wanted to have fun and stay on my feet."

Freshman Lilana Quezada earned the silver medal in the 400 M (59.68) behind a Robyn Brown (56.23); a member of the Philippines National team member.  Sophomore Elani Huntley rounded out the top finishes after placing third overall in the 3000 M (10:56.54)
