Women’s Track & Field Places Second in CCCAA Southern Regional Championships

The Riverside City College women's track and field team was just 36 points away from hauling in their first California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern Regional Championship in program history. Despite being narrowly bested by the Cerritos College Falcons, the Tigers hauled in second place bettering their finish a year ago.

The Tigers landed in first place in numerous events highlighted by a first place finish in the 4 x 400 M Relay (3:52.21). Freshman LaDaijah Wright, freshman Alana Wilson, freshman Annayah Pelt and sophomore Madeline Corner were responsible for the victory. The quartet holds the top time in California in this event entering into state championships next weekend.

Freshman Annayah Pelt sped to a top finish in the 400 M (57.49). She was close to reaching her season best time of 57.15 which sits fourth overall in the state. Sophomore Sha'quan Matthews placed second in the 100 M Hurdles (14.76)

Sophomore Tayler Salley, who was recently named the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Female Thrower of the Year, placed second overall in the Discus (128' 1"). Corner made waves individually by placing third in the 400 M Hurdles (54.72).

Riverside will continue action on Friday, May 17 at the CCCAA State Championships in San Mateo, CA.
